Origins

The Musey Pony comes from North Cameroon and was developed by the local people specifically for their needs of hunting & war. However while they were shaped by mankind’s violent needs, they were also a very essential part of daily life. In fact, they were the subjects of rituals & care that actually gave them a measure of humanity. Later, as the needs of war were replaced by agriculture, they remained an integral part of society still.

Also known as the Kirdi, Cameroon, Lakka, Logone, Mbai, & Mussey, the Mousseye Pony comes from the Logone River in the sub-Sahel region of Cameroon. They are named for the Mousseye tribe in southeastern Cameroon who raise them.
