Names: Larkspur, lark’s heel, lark’s claw, knight’s spur, staggerweed
Description: Annual, biennial and perennial, size varies depending on species. Leaves are lobed, toothed and pointed. Flowers are purple / blue / red / yellow / white, have five petals and grow in a spur.
Concern level: Only during drought conditions, unpalatable, however high toxicity makes delphinium always a threat.
Toxic parts: All parts of the plants are toxic.
Symptoms: Burning and irritation of mouth and throat, diarrhea, weakness, muscle spasms, paralysis of respiratory function, convulsions, death.
Danger: Contains delphinine and ajacine alkaloids which can be fatal.
