Jack-In-The-Pulpit

Names: Arisaema, bog onion, brown dragon, indian turnip, wild turnip

Description: A stemless plant that grows up to two feet. Leaves have three parts and long stalks. Flower is a spadix (jack) covered by green / brown / purple / white spathe (the pulpit). Fruit is a red berry that grows in clusters

Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Family Araceae (Arisaema triphyllum)

Concern level: Only during drought conditions, unpalatable.

Toxic parts: The whole plant is toxic.

Symptoms: Burning and irritation of mouth and throat, diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, swelling of tongue and mouth, runny eyes, colic, excessive thirst

Danger: Contains calcium oxalate crystals which can be fatal.
