Johnsongrass
Names: Sorghum, Sudan grass
Description: Grass with a coarse stem and broad, veined leaves. Can grow up to six feet tall and have large multi-branched seed heads.
Concern level: High after rainfall when new shoots grow quickly.
Toxic parts: Leaves and stems, young shoots contain the highest concentration.
Symptoms: Loss of nerve function in bladder and hind legs, lack of coordination, constant dribbling of urine due to bladder paralysis, bladder infection, fetal deformities, fetal death.
Danger: Contains a cyanide compound which inhibits the body’s ability to absorb oxygen.
