Lantana
Names: Lantana camara, red sage, shrub verbena
Description: Small perennial shrub with spiny stems. Leaves are toothed, fragrant when crushed and grow opposite or whirled. Flowers are white / pink / yellow / orange / red, tiny, have four petals and grow in flat clusters. Fruit is fleshy and green then matures to blue / black.
Concern level: Only during drought conditions, unpalatable.
Toxic parts: Leaves and unripe berries. Leaves irritate on contact with skin.
Symptoms: Irritation and swelling of mouth and throat, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, dilated pupils, difficulty breathing, skin irritation.
Danger: Contains triterpenes which can be fatal.
