Names: Brassica

Description: Large family of plants containing annuals, winter annuals and biennials. Leaves are lobed or toothed. Flowers are yellow or white and have four petals. Fruit grows in tubular capsules.

Black Mustard, brassica nigra

Concern level: Only during drought conditions, unpalatable.

Toxic parts: Seeds, stems and leaves

Koolzaad Brassica napus

Symptoms: Lack of appetite, drooling, diarrhea, stomach pain, paralysis, photosensitization

Danger: Contains mustard oils which are released when seeds are moistened before feeding which contain strong irritants.
