    does anyone know what the movie is with the girl.. and she’s like locked in a room somewhere or something in this huge mansion house, possibly in scotland or something and there is this wild black horse that no one can tame. and then she does and rides it over a hedge or something! ANYONE KNOW??? please i used to love that movie and now i forget what it’s called :(

    hi, theres a film i remember from when i was younger its called ‘Into the west’ its about a two brothers and their father who risk everything to keep a horse they found, turns out the horse is a spirit of their dead mother, the horse takes the children on a journey to where their mothers grave is. i loved this film as a kid and im sure you will enjo it too

    hello to all! im looking for a movie from the early to mid 90s that had a teenage girl who was sent to work at a horse ranch (ithink) she was “troubled” but ended up loving to ride… i think in the movie they were traveling with the horse and it fell off a cliff in the trailer and ended up almost crippled???? THNKS

      Thanks for helping me reconnect with so many fond memories and answering the brain numbing title pursuits to a few of my favorites.
      In the trip down memory lane I remember a couple that aren’t on the list.

      I remember one from way back. It wasn’t really a movie per se. It was an ABC Weekend special from 1977 starring Slim Pickens, called “The Winged Colt”: ( info at IMDb) It was about a boy who stays with his Uncle Coot and trys to protect a foal that was born with wings.

      Another favorite was The Long Shot (2003): About a blind Dressage horse and the lengths his owner has to go to to overcome the obstacles in her life. Not very realistic but a good heart warming movie none the less.

      Hacksaw: A Disney production about a wild horse from Canada that is caught and trained by a Pilot/ backwoods pack guide to be part of a chuckwagon team at the calgary Stampede.

      Misty: Basted on the book by M. Henry.

      Wild Horses: With Kenny Rogers as a rodeo cowboy who quits his ‘too tight’ job, leaves his wife and child to help round up wild horses for the BLM. Is revolted by the use of trip wires by some cruel men, saves a colt from certain death; chases the usual, beautiful stallion; and finds himself in the process.

        I saw your posting about Wild Horses with Kenny Rogers. I loved this film when I was a kid. My dad had taped it on VHS from TV. Can’t seem to find a way to get a copy of it anywhere now. In fact I don’t even find it listed under Kenny Rogers’ achievements on IMDB and he directed it! Do you have any idea of how to get a copy? Thanks for at least giving me the name – have been trying to remember that for years! Thanks! :)

    So i’m looking for a movie about a horse. My cousin tried describing it to me so i’m trying to find an answer for her. This is how she described it: a girl and a couple of her friends went out riding early in the morning and ran into a semi-driver and he hit one of the horses and the horse isn’t completely dead so they go out west to find a guy who specilizes in horses. Does anybody know this movie or am I completely off base?

      That sounds like the opening to The Horse Whisperer. Two girls leave early on a snowy morning for a ride. As they go, one horse slips and falls into the road off the trail and the other girl goes to help and gets into trouble too. Because they are preoccupied trying to get the horses out of the road they don’t heard the semi coming around the corner and get hit by it. That sounds about right to me, but I, personally, liked the book better. Hope this helps:)

    Hi again, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found and ordered the movie Bradys Escape. This movie is under several different names, in fact I ordered it as Bradys Run, and Bradys Escape is what they sent me. This is why through the years I had so many problems finding it. Anyone who would like to order it just look under John Savage and Kelly Reno movies and it will come up. Thanks for this site, without it I would have NEVER found this movie !

      I’m so sorry I got the title “Brady’s Escape” wrong. I’d seen the movie as a kid and remembered it as “Brady’s Run” and never questioned whether it was right or not (I’m such a dork! lol).

      Anyway….I’m really happy you found a copy! That one’s on my list. I really liked that movie and would definitely like to see it again.

    cant remember the name of the movie about this girl her mother dies and she goes to this party and gets drunk gets into a fight with her boyfriend crashes her boyfrieds car into a tree i think and get sent to this ranch for community service the ranch specializes in helping handicamped kids program she falls in love with this horse who later the horse gets hurt when this trailer falls off the road due to a rock slide she the girl gets pulled down the ridge with the trailer she gets paralized and the horse almost gets put down for his injuries but the owner of the ranch tries to save it for the girl and later when they have party for the girls birthday the runaway trackter break the barn side nocking the horses sling harnes down and the girl get the horse up to run out of the barn draging her part way till she the girl starts to walk if anyone knows what the name of this movie is i would appreciate it sorry for the long discription one of my favorite movies thanks

    hey i found a movie on youtube the winter stallion or a christmas stallion tells the story of the bond between sixtenn year ikd gwen and her welsh stallion mabon. her life has changed forever with the death of her grandfather who died as a result of a riding acedent. her estranged uncle from amiraca is considering selling the welsh farm where she grew up to a land devaloper along with all the horses . including her beloverd stalion gwen attemps to save the farm and solcits the aid of her cousin a feel-good horse story for all on you tube crescentmoonranch uploaded it last year good movie

    This is a wonderful listing of horse movies :) Its given me a whole slew of movies to buy for myself and my daughter now. I was hoping someone might be able to think of (ect) the name of a Disney movie I watched years ago as a child. It was about a palomino (I think Paso Fino) and a young boy, the horse competed in the end at a show where the particular breed preforms their natural gait. The rider carries a glass of wine/water as a test of how smooth gaited the horse truly is.

It was about a girl who gets in trouble and is sentenced to community service on a vet’s horse ranch, which she hates at first but then she falls in love with this beautiful tb. She begins to train on him, but their lives are almost ruined by a trailering accident. It’s a really good movie about holding on and having something to believe in. Could you help me?

    A few movies not on here are “A rogue stallion” only on VHS. “All roads lead home” very good movie about a girl who lost her mom in accident and she goes to live with her grandpa and saves a horse and dogs on the far that he grandpa is goona kill.

I remember the movie had a boy in it who wants to be in the circus and he ends up running away from home and ends up finding and joining a circus group. At first he does little things for the circus but what he really wants to do is perform in a show. He ends up seeing a famous act that they have with two other kids a boy and a girl that are on horses and they do tricks and stunts on the horses. The girl is nice to him and the boy is not because he has the “I am famous and you are not” think about him but he does end up becoming jealous of the boy, so much so that he ends up doing a stunt where he ends up breaking his leg and because of this the other boy is finally able to be part of the show and learns how to ride the horse and the stunts and tricks they do in the show and after a while he ends up being really well known for the tricks he can do on the horse. I also think at the end of the movie the boy does end up with some kind of reunion with his family too.

    I am really pleased to find your list which really helped my memory. Can anyone help me find an older film that I saw some 25 years ago about a spanish boy that was a stable boy and personally trained a “spanish gaited horse” to enter this special competition, he ended up being late ran his horse to make it to the competition and showed beautifully all the fancy footwork to win specatators hearts, the boy showed how smooth the horse’s gait was by placing a glass of wine or water on his head while riding. I cannot find it and have forgotten the name.
    One that you have missed on the list is “Into the West”-with Gabriel Byrne and Ellen Barkin, Miramax film, filmed in Ireland about two brothers who lost their mother and their father struggles with drinking and trying to stay in the urban life. A beautiful white horse appears to save the boys and their father’s spirit. It is a remarkable movie, very well made. I have the VHS copy but would love the DVD.

      You may be thinking of one of my all-time favorites, the 1952 classic French film “WHITE MANE” (“Crin Blanc” en français), directed by Oscar-winner Albert Lamorisse (“The Red Balloon”). This mythical movie is set in the coastal wild-horse region of southern France called the Camargue and told almost entirely in lyrically beautiful black-&-white images, with very few words of dialogue. Folco, a free-spirited young fisher-boy, befriends an untameable white pony who is being hunted down relentlessly by local horsemen: the wild freedom of nature vs the desire of man to dominate and control at any cost. The ambiguous ending does not sit well with some Americans. Some scenes (stallions really fighting, brutal chases) may be too intense, especially for younger viewers, but this movie appeals to all ages. (40 minutes)

      Hi, Marilyn- I’m new to this site & I have info on one of your movies which I also saw a long time ago: I think it may have been on “Wonderful World of Disney,” it was called “Cristobalito the Calypso Colt,” a Paso Fino in Puerto Rico. I remember it as being a palomino color horse; the rest is as you say, with the show and the glass of water. I also have been hoping to find this movie (or TV episode) for decades with no luck so far. I hope this answer helps you.

    There is a movie about a girl that loses her ability to walk and her horse goes blind and at the end she relizes that her horse can be her legs and she can be his eyes and her daughter wants snow for her august birthday anyone know what it is??????

      The movie you are talking about is The Long Shot about a dressage rider whose horse Tolo goes blind. She isn’t paralyzed, she works at a stable.

    There was a Disney movie from the early 1960’s called “THE HORSE WITH THE FLYING TAIL”, does anyone remember that one? I saw it as a child and I think it was something about a Palomino that makes it to the Olympic jumping events.

      It won an academy award in 1960 for my father. It had some of his best camera work. He was an amazing filmmaker who did nearly every part of his productions himself.

    “The Girl Who Came too Late”
    It is about a stuggling actress who arrives late for an audition and ends up getting in an accident with a wealthy polo player. She develops a relationship with him and discovers he has many horses. She can communicate with horses and ends up helping him with his breeding program. A great movie for horse lovers!!!

    Another great horse documentary is of Milton, the Great Britain show jumper rode by John Whitaker. The owner bough the scrawny colt and she had a heart attack at 37. Her parents sold her horses but send him to John Whitaker to continue training and showing. This was the first horse ever to earn over 1 million pounds. In the US we called him the Carousel horse.

A small boy who lost his father, the boy goes looking for his father and finds himself in a different world. His father is king there and his father gives the boy a white horse. He goes on an adventure to find missing children who have gone missing in this world. The boy also comes across a witch that gives him a cloak that can make him invisable to others around him and he has a small boy as a friend to help him along the way… that’s as much as I can remember of it!!!

    Just wanted to say I’ve either seen or own quite a good number of the films on this list!

    Not long ago, I managed to add “Amanda” to my collection. Great little film, came from Holland I believe. English, but with Dutch subtitles.

    And it’s not often you see a heavy horse under saddle in a film!

    I have just spent about 3 hours trying to track down a copy of “Amanda” on the net – no one on ebay has it, none of my usual torrent sites have it either, and it is one i have not seen. As an Australian, I can’t believe there’s one I know nothing about!

    This list has some really great movies listed. Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken is one of my all time favorite movies. Some other good movies I’ve seen are Racing Stripes, Moondance Alexander, Second Chances, The Colt(which is somewhat of a tear-jerker, especially at the end, and The Long Shot. All the movies I just listed are great movies and you’ll enjoy watchinng them.

    I wonder if anyone can help. When I as a kid I remember seeing a horse movie on TV I believe in the 80’s (or late 70’s), I can’t recall a lot of details about it. It was either a girl or young lady and she drives a herd of horses by herself and along the way there are hardships and some horses die. That’s about all I can remember. Anyone got any ideas?

    I wonder if anyone knows what movie this is. All I remember really is the daughter at the end is in a big showjumping class and the mother is all worried about her. It *may* be something to talk about but am not totally sure.

    Also even more vaguely I remember watching a movie with a girl doing riding and her dad looking through the window and yelling at her because she’s not supposed to be riding. I think she might have had an accident before??

    OK, looking for this movie is really driving me nuts! Im 28 and i remember watching this movie when i was about 6,7,8, 9 or 10 ish..:-). Its about a girl and her dad (think the mom past w while ago..). He works on a apple farm or something like that. I just remember lots of apples. The movie plays during winter/christmas time and i think the dad tried to get rid of the horse and lockes it up or something like that. And of course the girl has a special bond to the horse. Please, does anyone know the title of this movie???

    Snowfire it’s a movie from 50s/60s saw it once as a kid . I have never seen it again. A wild white Stallion is stealing Mares the ranchers want to kill him, a young boy loves him and tames him I want to buy this movie if I can find it.

    If you go to youtube, you can find all of these movies and watch the whole thing online. Actually, I am doing that at this second because some of these I have been dying to see. And just to make sure i’m correct, isn’t Running Free about the horse that is wild in the desert? All I know is the horse is a chestnut with a white blaze, and stockings on some/all of his legs. And what about the movie about the foal that is in a pen with a lot of other foals and a stallion, and a white arabian mare jumps into the pen after some of the humans are trying to hook her up to something and she fights the stallion, he kills her, and the foal goes free, and comes back with another horse later and fights the stallion, and wins?       Someone was mentioning a Movie where the boy had cancer, and they all shave their heads.

      It reminds me of a movie I once saw called “THE RIDE’
      it was put out by the Billy Graham assoc.

      And you could possibly find it in a Christian Book store, or perhaps a church library.

    Plz help.I saw this movie on tv around 1998-2001(when i was younger.It is like an autobiography of a horse.The boy,lost the horse in desers while getting in a train.From then on, the horse went on many adventures.The horse told about those in a sad manner.Many years later,the little boy(who was grown up now) found the horse & recognized him by a mark in his leg/body.In the last scene,the horse found other horses like him and ran together into the wild.BUT I DONT KNOW THE NAME!

      Actually it’s called black beauty… when after the boy loses him, black beauty goes(the horse) on many more happy and sad adventures leaving his love ginger behind because they are seperated… one day the horse is so worn out and can no longer do things he could do the man that recently sells him to the young boy that grew up. the guy that grew up realized it was his old horse with a mark on his leg. …… I hope this is not a different movie u were asking about

    This is a wonderful list, indeed, but I do suggest adding Dark Horse (from 1992) as others have mentioned… there are two movies with the same title. Also, The Horsemasters is a great flick. For anyone looking for movie suggestions, my favorites growing up were The Black Stallion Returns, Sylvester, National Velvet, and International Velvet. Enjoy!

    Please can any1 tel me the name of a film i saw in the early 90s. I only remember vague bits…Its about a horse with white socks and because of this it is “written-off” as a race horse but a young boy thinks otherwise and the horse turns out to be a champion,,Towards the end the horse bolts onto a concrete road and seriously damages its legs/feet..Please help, this is driving me nuts,,,Thanx.     I like this site it has a lot of good movies listed all except for the one I am looking for.here was a movie made in the early 2k 03 -04 Is about when I watched it not sure how new it was then. It was a based on truth low budget or independent; film I only recognized one actor and he was only in a few scenes.
    The storyline was a woman with a child and a loser husband that walks out on her everytime money gets low, has a horse that she wants to compete in dressage with. when her husband leaves her this time she gets a job at a facility and eventually ends up falling and losing the loss of her legs than her horse is stricken with a fever and goes blind when they ride the competion she is the eyes and the horse is the legs and they win!I cannot remember the name of the movie anyone who does please remind me so I can find it and buy a copy.drkhorserider@yahoo.com

    hi, I’m from Argetina and i wanted to know if any of you remember an old movie about a black horse who had a white spot in its forhead. I remember it’s an old movie before the 80s maybe even far before, in the end a boy, I think, finds him in somekind of a fair, he is in bad conditions and he hardly recognizes because of this white spot, he remembered him as a beautiful brave horse, well he takes him home and the horse ends up living in a beautiful place, free and well taken cared of. I dont remember more details about it, I watched it a long time ago, so please hope any of you saw it and can help me to find it. Thanks

He battles with an older stallion that is pure black. I don’t know his name. They live on a ranch in Texas I think? I thought the name was “Firestar” or something?     Absolutely LONGING to see a 60’s western comedy based on an unfortunate-looking white(?) mustang that was a gift to young couple. They were inept at homesteading and the horse helped them out in many situations.

    I am 65 years old and the top item on my bucket list (things to do before I kick the bucket) is to get a copy. I associate the name of the movie with the name of the pony: Thunder-something or LIghtning or ?? Could be way off-base… saw it in a small theatre in the midwest in 1958-1964? Any other horse-crazy old gals out there? I have actually OUTLIVED four wonderful horses…

    I am thinking about a movie that the girl is in a wheel chair and her dad takes her out west to do some hippotherapy to get her out of her depression. During the movie the therapist has her feeding the horses and a rain storm comes up so she decides not to do what she is supposed to do. She gets caught and has to do more than her share as punishment. She ends up being saved because of the horse.

    I once saw a movie about a young teenage girl whose mother died in a horse accident and her father refuses her to ride or have anything to do with horses. (I know this theme is EXTREMELY popular in the movie world) but through the movie the daughter rides and gets her father to appreciate it and allow her to ride.     Hey, great site! I remember seeing a TV movie back in the 70’s about a young girl and her mustang. Her father wants to destroy the horse because it is too wild. She sets it free for it to join a wild herd. Hearing that the herd it in danger of being rounded up and shot, she runs away from home and drives the herd to a protected park or wildlife preserve. She even enlists the help from some truck drivers. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

      Your thinking about th movie Wild Horse Hank. Hank is the name of the girl. She came home from college and her dad wanted to geld the horse. He escaped before the vt could do anything. She saved the herd when she found him the next day runnig with them.

    Hi! i’m hoping someone can help me please? i use to watch a film about 12years ago and i’m trying to remember its name. basic plot of the story is that a spoilt girl rides western dressage for a stable and the eventually they fire her due to her attitude and ask a young girl who works at the stable to ride for them instead. its about her struggle to become good enough to win the upcoming dressage competition and beat the other girl. also the teenage boy who works at the stable owns an ex racing horse and refuses to race him due to an accident or something but another boy challanges him to a race which he accepts and wins. something memorable to me as well is that the racing horse has a white bridle and saddle. the young girl who takes over also gets a make over and she and the racing boy fall in love. sorry its a bit sketchy but its a film from when i was very young. if anyone can help i’ll be very grateful! thank you

    There is a girl and I think she lost her mother or her parents are divorced maybe (not sure) but she is sent away and has to leave her boyfriend. While away she meets another guy and when she returns home the new boyfriend says he can see that she is supposed to be with the new guy- if you need me I’ll be there for you. Some sort of legal/money trouble some issue happens and the new bf bails her out. In the end she wins some sort of race/competition with her horse. Haven’t seen it in over 10 years but I remember liking it! Please help!

    I saw a movie maybe in late 80’s or early 90’s, can’t remember the name or full story. Briefly, there was a white female horse champion, give birth (with some village horse) to light brown horse who had a spot on head (like a comma but upside down). As i remember white horse could not compete any more, and brown was sent away as it did not look as a race horse. Anyways, soon brown one starts racing and I remember on last race he was going to lose but than his mother started running by him which stimulated him and he won.
    Movie was old, races were not done on a proper race grounds.

    I do apologies for such foggy and funny description.

    hey guys there is this movie that i briefly remember seeing and all i can remember is there was this dark brown/bay yearling very expensive it got brought at a sale and it was loaded onto a float

    then i think the drivers were drunk and as they came around a corner or something they crashed the float into a tree the horse got out and became wild does anyoen know a movie with similar details

    I noticed that Equus with Richard Burton (1977) wasn’t on the list. Its definitely not a little girls movie because it has a lot of nudity but no real sex scenes. It has a splendid performance by Burton who plays a therapist to a boy who has blinded six horses. The boy was consumed by his “God” named Equus. It is very artfully done with some of the scenes with the boy and horses who develops his own ceremonies to worship Equus. The end is very disturbing because it shows the boy running around naked and blinding the horses, but even with that, I believe the movie to be stunning. I had picked it up at a yard sale knowing nothing about it other than it had a horse on the front and loved it when I watched it. I even watched it the next day again it was so good. I know it sounds gruesome but you won’t be disappointed.

    Also I think that Cavalia should be mentioned on your list too. It is the French Canadian horse show that combines dancing, dressage, acrobatics and trick riding. The horses are some of the most beautiful you have ever seen with many of them being Lusitanos. If you can’t see the show live then you can buy the DVD of the performance highlights from their website: Cavalia.net.

    Hello. I need some help please. Can anybody remember a film from the fifties, I think, about a young boy sent to a reform school. At this school/home he helped look after a horse called ‘old nelly’.While ‘old nelly’ was giving birth to a foal, she had to be shot, to save the life of the foal, owing to the difficulty of the birth. The young boy, upset at this outcome, refuses anything to do with the new addition, blaming the vets for the death. As usual, the boy comes around in the end, and grooms the horse into being a top racehorse. Thats about all I can remember but would like any help from anybody if possible.     If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it here… I’m trying to find the title of a made for TV movie I think it was on the Lifetime or maybe the Oxygen channel.

    Synopsis is: Lonely photographer living in New York decides to travel out west to photograph some of the few remaining Mustangs out in the wild. She ends up staying at the ranch of a reclusive widower and his sister while looking to get the photos she needs. She ends up falling in love with both the horses and the rancher who is so different from the New York guys she’s used to. After getting all the photos she needs she runs back to NYC, afraid to say goodbye or tell him how she feels. He ends up bringing a Mustang all the way to NYC and shows up at her photo debut at an exclusive studio and walks the horse right in.

    Really sweet movie and I’ve seen it a couple times on TV but could never catch the name. Ring a bell with anyone?
