Name Your Horse Markings Pt. 1 - The Face

Facial markings give your horse character and personality. Like fingerprints, no two horses will have the same facial markings and that makes each mark unique within it’s category.

Here is a quick look at each facial marking for reference. For more in-depth knowledge learn how to define your horses face markings

Facial Markings

Bald Face

A blaze that extends to or past the eyes in width. Some bald face horses have one or more blue eyes.
And right next door to him, his his daughter.

Blaze

A large white stripe down the face.

Snip

A white mark between the nostrils.

Star

A white mark on the forehead area.

Strip / Stripe / Race

A narrow stripe down the face.
This is Lincoln's

Faint

A small irregular spot with white hair growth although there is no pigment change in the skin.
Gorgeous Mare Face

Interrupted Strip or Blaze

A stripe or a blaze that is broken or interrupted.
Left or Right Stripe

Irregular or crooked

A stripe or a blaze with a crooked path.
