Palomino Horse Art

Fraser with Mr. Miller Up – Cornelius KrieghoffOver the past few weeks I’ve featured some colorful horse art collections and this week is no exception. Today it’s all about the blondes, those handsome and fair animals we call palominos.

Colorful Genetics

This color comes from a chestnut horse that is affected by a creme dilution gene (sound confusing?). Equine genetics is incredibly involved, good thing these artists didn’t need to understand them to paint pretty palominos. Be sure to also check out the art of white (pt. 2), black (pt. 2), red & pinto horses.

Not A Big Color

The palominos aren’t as highly represented as some of the other colors which is a shame, blondes do make lovely subjects. If you prefer other colors of the horse rainbow be sure to check out the rest. white (pt. 2) | black (pt. 2) | red | pinto

This series was a lot of fun to put together. Seeing horse art categorized by coat color provides a unique perspective on the art itself. I’m so glad you like them. :)

And just to make things more complicated I read somewhere that there is no such thing as a purebred palomino arabian, but there are arabians that look palomino but the genes aren’t the same. Picky, picky. I think they are all beautiful, even if we don’t take a microscope to them.
I really love that Whistlejacket horse, forever in that magnificent pose.

Whistlejacket! I could see this original picture in London once, it is big and great! In German language we see the palomino colour diffrent, I think. The redbrown and blondes, like whistlejacket, we call “Füchse” (Foxes) and the very light sort is called “Isabell”, they look like the chinese horse here, are also called Palomino. But maybe it is different also in your language and I make a mistake?

The “Horse Being Attacked By A Lion” one reminds me of the page about Predators Riding Horses. I Love Horses and ESPECIALLY Palominos!!!!!
    Snoo.

Loved Whistlejacket and although George Stubbs’ The horse attacked by a lion was eye catching but certainly not restful so quite distressing. :(
