The Horses of Picasso

Pantomime Horse Study for ParadeIt is interesting to see how many of the greats of the art world appreciated (and enjoyed drawing) the mighty horse.

Muse to The Collective Art World

As I started researching it further I was surprised at how often the equine animal is and was used as a subject.

Picasso shows a variety of styles very clearly in his horse images, many of which depict horses in the bullring.

His horse art ranged from abstract and wild to classic and clean all of which possesses a certain charm.

I LOVE ONE I HAVE OF RED HORSES RUNNING, IN WATERCOLOR AND CHAULK THAT LOOKS IMPRESSIONISTIC IN STYLE FROM THE LATE 1800S IN EUROPE, BUT I’M STILL TRYING TO IDENTIFY THE ARTIST! IT’S FUN LOOKING AT YOUR SITE. I’LL TRY TO POST MINE ON MY WEBSITE TO SEE IF YOU CAN IDENTIFY IT. LOVE YOUR SITE.

Thomas, Cyndi, and others with “prints” of Picasso’s horses: what you have is a commercial reproduction, not an original painting, nor, probably, an original print, such as a lithograph. Original works of art by Picasso are worth a great deal, and are available as a rule only through good art dealers or auction houses. I am sorry to say that yours have no value as art–they are just decorations. However they are copies of fine works of art, and you are right to enjoy them.

I have what i think is an unsigned picasso print with a L.GABRIEL stamp on it dated 11 dec 1961.
    The print is double sided.
One side shows an image of the rider and 5 face images of that rider dated 13.7.59 with the leter V, the other is the rider on a horse dated 13.7.59 with the letters VI
I have been trying to find out more information on the print, can you help me please.
