Horse Breeds Beginning With E

After the earlier horse breed letters, E brought a big Whew! They get smaller for a little while & that makes me feel like I’m going faster.

If you haven’t already checked out A’s, B’s, C’s & the D’s, they represent a huge chunk of the World’s breeds. Today it’s all about those that begin with E, from the relatively new East Bulgarian bred as a versatile work/recreational horse to the ancient Exmoor Pony whose looks have barely changed over thousands of years.

Although the E’s are a smaller category, it contains a wide variety of animals. Each story a building block in the history of mankind.

Big Daddy E’s

Each letter has it’s fair share of ancient bloodlines and E is no exception. First & foremost the spirited Egyptian Arabian whose ancestors pulled the chariots of Egyptian Pharaohs, the elegant English Thoroughbred whose blood has contributed to breeds worldwide, & the hardy Exmoor Pony whose descendants roamed Bitain some 100,000 years ago.

Personal Favorite E’s

Although the ancient breeds are perhaps the most interesting to research, they aren’t always my favorites. I particularly like the (sadly now extinct) East Friesian simply because they looked nothing like the Friesian we think of today; the adorable Edelbluthaflinger for their blonde locks; the golden Equus Kinsky bred to meet the specific needs of one Count Kinsky; & the sturdy but handsome Estonian Native which possesses dominant characteristics that have resisted cross breeding.
