Now that the breeds section has been finished for a while, suddenly I’ve had a renewal of interest in sharing the alphabet with my readers. There are so many amazing types of animals out there to be discovered.

Today it’s about breeds that start with M, from the M’Bayar of Senegal thought to come from the mighty Barb to the Mytilene Horse which has been bred on islands off the coast of Turkey for the last millennia.
The M’s are an enormous section which makes playing favorites incredibly difficult to do.
Big Daddy M’s
Because it’s such a large category, there is a wide variety of cultures involved in development of these breeds. Many of these breeds have been helped to shape the history of the cultures who created them. There is the Manipuri Pony which has been used as a polo pony since the 7th century AD; the Misaki Pony that still runs wild in Cape Toi Japan; the Mongolian Horse which is perhaps the oldest true breed of horse; and the Moroccan Barb an ancient breed, Moroccan style.
Personal Favorite M’s
As always the larger breed letters make it much more difficult to pick my favorites, however a few of them seem to stick out more than others. Such as the Mangalarga Paulista which is a lesser known cousin of the Marchador that I’d never heard of; the handsome & bulky Maremmano which has been bred in Italy for centuries; and the Murgese horse, another Italian breed which shares ties with the Lipizzan horse.
