In a nutshell, no gut sounds usually means problems. Horses cannot vomit, so there is only one way out, which can present some very obvious problems.

Prevention is Key

Using a stethoscope is advisable if you suspect your animal has colic. But a good old fashioned ear to the gut for your daily listen will provide you a preventative baseline to work from. If you know what normal sounds like you will know what abnormal sounds like.
