Downy Brome
Names: Bromus tectorum, bronco grass, downey chess, drooping brome, june grass, early chess, military chess, cheatgrass
Description: Annual that grows to 30 inches. Blades and leaf sheaths are covered in fine hairs. Seed is purple, slender, grows in drooping spikelets.
Concern level: High in animals grazing anywhere near the awns.
Toxic parts: The awns are coarse and can cause mechanical injury.
Symptoms: Sores and infections in mouth, throat, eyes and intestines, weight loss.
Danger: Mechanical damage can usually be reversed.
