Lily of the Valley

Names: Convallaria majalis, our ladies tears, may lily, ladder-to-heaven

Description: Perennial herb, leaves are basal, flowers are white, bell shaped, nodding, in a one sided cluster and fragrant. Fruit is a red berry.

Concern level: Only during drought conditions, unpalatable. Generally found in landscaping and gardens. Large quantities must be consumed to be toxic.

Toxic parts: All parts of the plant are toxic.

Lily-of-the-valley from my father's garden smells heavenly!

Symptoms: Gastrointestinal upset, irregular pulse, diarrhea, dilated pupils, colic

Danger: Contains glycosides and saponins which can be fatal.
