It’s that time again, Monday morning and it’s time to learn about another plant your horse can’t eat. Today we’ll take a closer look at an incredibly common house plant, the Croton.

A Little About Croton

The Croton is a perennial that grows leaves in a wide variety of colors.

How Dangerous Is It?

This is a plant generally found in ornamental gardens and as houseplants to a horses exposure to it is limited. However it is very dangerous to horses and should be cataloged away for reference. Contains toxic properties which can cause inflammation and erosion of the intestines, heart hemorrhage, and decline liver and kidney function.

All parts of this plant are toxic and can be fatal to equines.

What To Look For

Part of the high danger of Crotons is the lack of symptomatic behavior after ingestion. Diarrhea is the only obvious visible sign of toxicity.
