Amur Horse – Extinct Breed of the Week

Amur Horse
The Amur horse is an extinct equine breed that was native to Siberia. Their bloodlines were a cross between the Buryat & the Tomsk horses and they were bred specifically as riding mounts.

This was a tough, hardy animal & although they were built to withstand extreme conditions, they posessed a finer confirmation than many northern animals.

The End

The demise of this breed was largely due to the lack of established breeding programs and the resulting indiscriminate breeding practices. Crosses between the many Russian breeds served to dilute the bloodlines of these animals and effectively extinguished the last of the pure strains.

Know About The Amur?

There is very little information to be found about this equine in English and I’d love to learn more. If you know something about this breed I hope you’ll drop me a note.
