Andalusian Horse – Breed of the Week

Andalusian Horse
The blood of the mighty Andalusian horse runs through the veins of almost every western breed known today. They traveled with the Spanish to the Americas and were among the first breeds to be re-introduced to North America since the ice age.

The Purebred Spanish Horse has long been a source of pride for the Spanish people, a culture known for taking their horses with them wherever they traveled.

Their noble presence and lovely lines make for a truly beautiful animal and their calm strength makes them an intuitive and faithful mount.

Andalusian Horse

Of Pure Blood

The breeding and preservation of this breed has been made a priority which could be part of the reason they still have so many undiluted bloodlines. Especially considering how much Andalusian blood has contributed to other breeds.

The Spanish region of Andalusia has remained a hub for breeding and like many older European breeds some of the purest strains come froma Carthusian monastery there.

Roots

The introduction of the handsome convex nose of this breed has long been speculated. Some think it came from Asian animals prior to the Muslim invasion of the Iberian peninsula. Others claim it comes from the desert Barbs that made their way up from northern Africa. Still others believe it is a trait inherent in the breed that existed before the Barb came to be.
