Emily of Texas Revisited

Year of the HorseThe first artist interview ever published on The Equinest was Emily of Texas and I found her via Twitter. Since then the list has grown along with my appreciation for art.

Artist of the Week

Today’s artist paints colorful & vibrant pieces, full of character & warmth. Interestingly enough she’s not just into horses, her mount of choice is Mammoth Jackstock.

Keeping Up With Emily

Be sure to visit her blog at emilyoftexas.wordpress.com to see her latest stuff & you can always follow Emily on twitter to keep up with her work. Here are some quick quotes & my favorite images from her interview, you can read the whole interview here.

“Since I was a little bitty kid I was obsessed with horses, leased my first one when I was about 12. Mucked stalls and rode in exchange for lessons. I drew really awful pictures of horses, wrote bad poetry about donkeys since I can remember.”

Emily's Interview

“I hope that the mission of seeking out art in a physical way is not lost.”

Pretty White Ass

“Far West Texas is the only place I’ve truly felt at home. The landscape here looks like fiction sometimes. I look at something and say if I painted it just like that, no one would believe me.”

2009 Year of the Bull

“Before the Internet chances were I’d never meet the people that bought my work. I might hear about it later- but the Internet, especially Twitter, I feel like I can get to know my audience a little bit better.”

Enjoying the Artists

Hope you enjoyed this artist re-visit & that you’ll check out Emily’s full interview to learn more about her & her work.

Stay tuned because next week we’ll be re-visiting an interview with horse artist Jennifer Pratt.
