Horse Breeds From The Czech Republic

Czech Republic FlagWe’re heading to another country of the world and the fascinating horse breeds its given rise to. It’s interesting to look at each breed in the context of their origins, and today it’s all about breeds from Czech Republic.

Golden Days

The horses that originally come from the Czech Republic are primarily of warmblood type, robust & sturdy yet athletic and intelligent. In fact, The Golden Horse of Kinsky was Europe’s first warmblood sport horse. Sadly this once popular animal is now far more rare than gold.

Of Historical Importance

The oldest and only indigenous breed to the Czech Republic is the Old Kladruby Horse, a cousin to the Lipizzaners. This breed was once quite colorful and the preferred carriage horse by the Vienna Imperial Court. Sadly a fire destroyed 200 years of documented breeding late in the 18th century. The breed was able to continue, however after the fire they were only bred in black & white.

    Hi,
What breed are the black horses being used in the current BBC series The Musketeers?
Are they from the Czech Republic (where I believe the series is being made) or have they been brought in from elsewhere?
They look a bit like Friesans, but I think that breed comes from Holland.
