A position usually found in small establishments with fewer horses and employees, the duties of a stable hand can encompass those of groom, handler, stall cleaner & schooling rider. This is an entry level position, good for those who want to begin a career in the equine industry.
What You Need
This is a position which benefits from a working knowledge of horses, general maintenance skills and solid communication skills. Smaller stables often rely heavily on each employee and everyone shares responsibility for the animals.

Job Description
Usually answers to either the barn manager or the trainer and is responsible for overall maintenance and daily running of the facility, feeding, cleaning & administering of medication.

Requirements
Some employers will require a high school diploma for employment, but no formal education or training really exists for this position. Potential employers will be looking for someone with horse experience who is handy enough for routine maintenance.

Hi, my name is Grace. Currently, as is everyone else here, my friend Jocelyn and I are hoping to get a job working alongside horses in this field, even if we have to get down and dirty. We are currently 13 and turning 14 in a few months, though we are built like adults, and live very close to Rockford Illinois. We are both very smart and learn quickly when need be. I am a working student at the barn I board/train/show with (the job is usually feeding inside and outside horses, turning horses out, blanketing, tacking up, riding all types of horses, filling water buckets, sweeping, mucking stalls ect. and you must stay at the barn until all of the work is finished) and I’m looking for a job mostly to help pay the $3,000 plus that my parents kindly pay for each month for both my horses to live there, but also because I love the animals and learning new things. I know a lot about horses, I currently show 2’9-3′ in both hunters and jumpers and am looking to move up within the next season (so I would love a job that has me riding horses) and I work as a working student 3 times a week. I am 15 as of November 2014. I currently do not own a horse but i ride with friends. I have been around horses since i was about 10 and I know how to do simple care for them. I have been looking for a stable hand job as a part time job until i finish high school. I have also worked with some partially problem horses (bucking, rearing, or issues with hand reigning.). I am 17 years old and currently looking for a barn job. I only attend school twice a week now because I have already earned all my required credits to graduate high school so my schedule is very open. I worked last April-November at a farm cleaning stalls (only left because horses left for the winter) and I have been working at a horse rescue for 4 years now where I also board my own horses. I have been riding since I was 10 and am extremely comfortable around horses. I’m usually placed in advanced classes but consider myself more of an advanced intermediate rider. Hello! I am 13 years old and love horses. I have been around them my whole life (my mom took me with her around the pasture on her horse when i came home from the hospital) and have always loved it! I am looking for a job with at least some payment (doesn’t have to be much at all) just need some money. The job would have to be around the Ottumwa, Osceola, Chariton, Leon, and Knoxville, IA area, as i can’t legally drive. I can drive on the farm (private property), groom, bathe, clip, train, exercise, help with medical issues, muck out, tack up, untack, and many other things. I am very good with horses. I ride mostly western, but do know the basics of english. I run barrels, poles, any speed event, trail ride, english equitation, western pleasure, and some others. I have expeirience with many different levels. A supposed expert trainer couldn’t get my friend’s horse ot do what he wanted and when i got on within 10 minutes he was riding like a champ.

I am currently looking for a job that involves horses and want to earn money so I can afford riding lessons. I have experience with horses since my aunt and cousins used to have them and I have a friend who owns three. I am also a fast and visual learner and I have read many horse books that involve tips on feed/caring for your horse/health etc. ever since I was around 6-7 years old. I have also ridden horses ever since I could remember and it is a part of my life that I don’t want to throw away. Hi. I live near Bakersfeild, California. I’m looking for a job as a stablehand. I’m 13 years old. I am available most days after school, weekends, and holiday breaks. I’m good at handling but don’t have as much experience riding (I can walk and canter, but Im still having a little trouble with trotting). When I do get to ride, I usually ride Western, but I would be very willing to learn English. I do not have my own horse, but all my neighbors do have horses which I take care of and handle regularly. I once took care of a Mustang who would rarely approach anyone, and within two days he was eating out of my hand and nickering when he saw me. I live on a farm and have all the responsibilities of our horses. I bathe, groom daily, feed, lunge, load, ride/exercise, you name it. My passion in life is horses and working on farms, I am involved in 4H and have been for 3 years, I judge horses at Black Hawk, Springfield and do horse bowl and hipology.
