Horse Breeds Beginning With L

Now that the breeds section has been finished for a while, suddenly I’ve had a renewal of interest in sharing the alphabet with my readers. There are so many amazing types of animals out there to be discovered.

If you haven’t met the rest of the alphabet, be sure to do so A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | J | K. Today it’s about breeds that start with L, from the rare (but hardy) Lac la Croix Pony to the mysterious Lyngen Horse thought to be a native of Norway.

The L’s aren’t a big category which makes it easier to meet each & every one of these characters.

Big Daddy L’s

There is a wide variety of types in the L’s, (especially for such a small category) but it also contains some heavy hitters in the world of horse breeds. This includes the Landais Pony, a native of France since prehistoric times; another French addition, the Limousin Horse was bred during Medieval times and the Lusitano, Portugal’s answer to the Andalusian.

Personal Favorite L’s

It may be a smaller category, but each of the L breeds stands on their own four feet. However I had to pick a few favorites so here they are. First is the handsome Lippitt Morgan which is thought to be the purest strain of Morgans found today; the lipizzan which needs no explanation as they are unicorns-in-training; and last is the Lundy Pony who was developed by the private owner on Lundy Island.
