Leutstetten

Intro

Also called the Leutstettener, the Leutstetten breed comes from Hungary. Breeding began early in the 19th century in an attempt to improve the local native animals. Breeding was taken seriously and very systematic & there are accurate stud books that date back to 1816.

Origins

Breeding was selective and animals were imported from several countries to upgrade stock for specific reasons. Breeds were imported from several countries and breeding was extremely selective. The breeds that influenced the Leutstetten most are the Furioso & the English Thoroughbred (although it possesses less English Thoroughbred blood than any of the Hungarian warmbloods).
