The never ending parade of horse breeds is always a source of entertainment. Each one has a story to tell and they all coincide with our own story of life on this planet.
If you haven’t already checked out the A’s & the B’s, be sure to meet them. Today we are going to take a look at breeds that begin with C, from the elegant Calabrese to the hardy Czech Warmblood.
It’s interesting to see how horse culture is established in different areas of the world. Even more so is tracing the lineage of each breed back to common ancestors.
Big Daddy C’s
The letter C starts a wide variety of horse breeds across the planet, each one from a different place & time. The lovely white Camargue Horse comes from the prehistoric animals of southern France, the tiny Caspian represents the link between early Equus and modern desert breeds, and the mighty Criollo is perhaps the most popular little tough guy in all of South America.
Personal Favorite C’s
The oldest breeds are the basis for them all, & some of my favorites are old guys too. The C’s I like best are the handsome Campolina for their unique profile; the distinguished Cleveland Bay because they are just a good looking animal; the mighty Clydesdale because you have to love all those feathers; and the Connemara Pony for being so tough but looking so slick.
