It’s horse breed Thursday again and time to meet one of the last few letters of the breed alphabet. Make sure you visit the breeds section where I’ve written pages about every breed I can find.

Today it’s about breeds that start with V, from the adaptable Venezuelan Criollo established from Spanish animals brought to the new world to the Vyatka from an area of Udmurtia known for horse breeding.
There is a decent sized group of characters, but still small enough to meet every one.
Big Daddy V’s
None of the V breeds are especially ancient, but some of them have been around for a century or two. There is the tiny Vietnamese Hmong whose origins are a mystery and their development relatively untouched by man; the rare Voronezh Coach Horse which is the only surviving ancestor of the extinct Bityug breed; and the Vyatka which is thought to be a descendant of the Tarpan
Personal Favorite V’s
This week it wasn’t too difficult to pick a couple of favorites to share more about, the V’s are a great bunch. First the Virginia Highlander which is the result of one man’s dream of the perfect riding horse; the Vlaamperd of South Africa which is incredibly rare (so rare I have no pic); and the Vladimir Draft because I like heavy Russian animals and they have a great name.
